1.6. Inform Patient Over Procedure

  1. 1

Explain the procedure and why it’s needed, using simple language and terms. This helps the patient relax and understand what’s being done. If you’re not comfortable explaining, ask someone else who is.

  2. 2

Explain each step of the procedure. Mention any potential discomfort to prepare the patient and avoid surprises. For example, warn about pressure during an extraction to prevent dangerous unexpected movements.

  3. 3

Inform the patient why the procedure is needed. This educates them on what caused the need for the procedure and how to avoid it in the future.

  4. 4

After explaining, ask if the patient has any questions or concerns.

  5. 5

Legal Matters: Ensure all consent forms are signed by the patient before any procedure. Failure to do so could result in complicated legal matters affecting you and the office.
