1.2. Patient History and Preparation

  1. 1

Learn what brings the patient in. This is usually stated on the chart, but asking can serve as another confirmation. This helps avoid confusion and gives an idea of what X-rays might be needed.

  2. 2

Ask about the patient’s last dental visit to learn:

    • When their last checkup was
    • When was their last checkup
    • What was done
    • How long ago it was done

This information can help with diagnosis, determine necessary X-rays, and inform about insurance eligibility.

  3. 3

Before any physical contact, review the patient’s health history. Focus on questions answered “yes” and always ask about high blood pressure, kidney, or liver diseases, even if marked “no”.

  4. 4

Ask if the patient has had any complications since their last visit at Deluxe Dental or any other dental office. This helps address any previous unpleasant experiences and ensure quality service.
