1.4. X-rays
When a patient is asked about their last dental visit, what’s bothering them, and what brings them in, an idea of what X-rays are needed is formed. Here’s a list of possible X-rays to be taken:
-
1
New patient to Deluxe Dental with last dental visit a year ago:
- Full mouth X-ray (FMX)
- If insurance doesn’t cover FMX: 4 bitewing and two Periapical X-rays (PA)
-
2
Patient with bad gag reflex or when many patients are waiting:
- Panoramic X-ray (PAN) and four bitewings
-
3
Returning patient, one year since last checkup:
- Four bitewings
- If specific teeth are bothering them, replace some bitewings with PA of those teeth
-
4
Emergency patient:
- One PA of the teeth bothering them or a Panoramic (PAN)
-
5
Crown/bridge delivery:
- Bitewing of the product delivered before cementing
-
6
Pregnant patient:
- No X-rays unless medical clearance is provided or directed by the dentist
