Dental Bridges: Restoring Function and Aesthetics

Dental bridges are a vital restorative treatment designed to replace missing teeth permanently. These prosthetics effectively fill gaps between healthy teeth or implants, restoring both the function and appearance of a patient’s smile. A typical bridge consists of one or more fabricated teeth supported by two or more crown abutments.

The process of fitting a dental bridge generally involves two main stages:

  1. 1

    Preparation Phase

During this initial stage, we prepare the abutment teeth on either side of the gap. This involves removing a portion of the enamel to accommodate the crowns that will anchor the bridge. We then take precise impressions of the patient’s teeth, which are sent to a dental laboratory for bridge fabrication. To protect the prepared teeth and maintain aesthetics, we fit a temporary bridge for the interim period.

  2. 2

    Delivery and Fitting

Once the permanent bridge is ready, we schedule the delivery appointment. We begin by removing the temporary bridge and thoroughly cleaning the area. The new bridge is then carefully checked for proper fit, color match, and bite alignment. After ensuring a correct fit, we cement the bridge in place using a strong, permanent dental cement. The final step involves adjusting the patient’s bite to ensure natural and comfortable function. In some cases, follow-up appointments may be necessary for fine-tuning the fit and alignment.

A well-fitted dental bridge not only restores the visual completeness of a patient’s smile but also significantly improves their ability to speak clearly and chew efficiently. It’s an investment in both oral health and quality of life.
